Paul Teather (www.thehealthyhome.co.uk ) carried out our air test last week. The result was 5.7 m3/h/m2 which is well within building regs but not as good as the cabin at 1.96. The draughty spots were behind the upstairs loo and the log stove.
Behind the loo is boarded but there are 2 coats of clay plaster behind and the soil pipe was well plastered up to and snug. Perhaps the junction with the roof is poor and air is being drawn from there?
The log stove is easier to explain - even when the stove vents are in the closed position there is still a considerable draught and where the flue comes through the upstairs ceiling there is an enormous gap which was left on purpose as we were following fitting instructions. However, building control have confirmed that we can fill this in with fire board and fire resistant insulation such as rockwool (and luckily Kate has some scraps we can use!). Seems daft to build an airtight house and then leave a whopping great gap in the ceiling!
